I’m a sport science student and outdoor adventurer based in Vancouver, BC. I am actively engaged in the outdoor and Type 1 diabetes online communities. In the past, I noticed a scarcity of online resources for Type 1 diabetics to learn and ask questions about wilderness recreation. This was a problem worth resolving.
As I learned from my own trial and error, I decided to create this space for three reasons:
Speaking engagements: I’ve had the opportunity to speak at various events about Type 1 diabetes and the outdoors. In these engagements, I cover a number of topics including: signs and symptoms of high and low blood sugars, hypoglycemic awareness, diabetes management tools, and more. In addition to raising awareness of Type 1 diabetes, I am trained to deliver outdoor safety talks, through AdventureSmart, on a variety of topics including: Trip Planning, the 10 Essentials, how to Survive Outside, and more. Sponsorship: I generally work with brands to promote products and/or ideas I believe in. If you’re interested in working with me, you can get in touch through my contact form.
About ashikaparsad.com: On this website, you can find information on local hikes & snowshoes, diabetes articles, and blood sugar management tips. I extend my blog through various social media channels, including: Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
Through this site, my goals are to connect with like-minded partners and work together in a number of media arenas, including:
Through my love for the outdoors, I’ve had the chance to work with several organizations, including:
